Seeing Sugar?!

I just came back from the library because the books we borrowed were due today. I returned 4 out of 5 and re-checked out the book "Seeing Sugar" by Cynthia L. Brinson. Why?! Because my princess wanted to finish that book.

Here's a summary of what it's about:
Kate loves sweets and school, including her fourth-grade teacher, her desk at the front of the class, and the fact that she's always the first to answer Miss Burke's questions. Then Sugar Rose Simms arrives at Maplewood School, and Miss Burke asks Kate to move so that the new girl can have her seat. From that moment on, Kate is off anything sweet and she no longer wants to participate in the class discussions because she can't see the blackboard. The teacher tells her mom about her nearsightedness and they visit the optometrist. Now she blames Sugar for her glasses, as well. However, through them, Kate sees the leaves in her favorite tree, not just a haze of green, and the birds living in the branches. She is so excited that she takes photos of everything and shares them in school the next day. She takes a class picture and notices something else: Sugar is a shy, lonely girl-not the thief who stole her desk. The message is a little heavy-handed, but early chapter-book readers will relate to Kate's hurt feelings and frustration. Youngsters will be reassured that they are not alone in the unjust world of elementary school.

Then I borrowed 2 other books for her to read, if she wants or if she hasn't already. She loves reading. Well, I was bored and had all the time in the world so I browsed through almost all the aisles of books while I was there. I skimmed through books regarding paralegal studies, careers in law, careers in law enforcement, arts & crafts, cooking, drawing, fashion, etc. After walking around so much, I got tired. I was wearing my heels! Well, I didn't borrow any books for myself. Maybe next time. Oh! I also skimmed through a book about California Small Claims. Yeah, I would need to help someone with either small claims or something in the near future. No details though!

But with my experience in small claims while working and also personally filing it myself, I think I know what to do and which forms to file where. Yup! I'm 99% confident that I know.

Well, I get to see my little princess tomorrow! I'm still thinking about whether or not I should go to the Festival of Books at UCLA this weekend. Preferably Saturday. I don't want to stress about transportation or parking. Then there's all that walking around and I also don't have money to spare. We'll probably end up baking another cake this weekend. I'll also remind her to make that "thank you" card to her aunt TamTam. I'm starving now! Ta-Ta For Now! TTFN!
